Expand the participation of renewable energy in Braskem's matrix with a model that would pave the way for future equity participation in the parks
Braskem was committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2050, with a goal of reducing its emissions by 15% by 2030. To achieve this, it needed to continue expanding the participation of renewable energy in its matrix, both in its own operations and in the petrochemical chain.
The company had already signed three previous renewable energy contracts, with EDF Renewable (wind, 2018), Voltalia (solar, 2020), and Canadian Solar (solar, 2020), which together were estimated to avoid approximately 955 thousand tons of CO₂. However, a model was still needed that would also open up the future option of equity participation in the parks, a path towards eventual self-production.
20-year corporate PPA with wind energy from the Rio do Vento (76 MWm) and Umari (42 MWm) Complexes, both in operation
Braskem signed a 20-year corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with Casa dos Ventos. The supply comes from the Rio do Vento Wind Complexes, in operation since 2022 (76 MWm), and Umari, in operation since 2024 (42 MWm), both located in Rio Grande do Norte. In addition to purchasing energy, Braskem gained the option to acquire equity participation in the wind farms, enabling a future self-production regime, subject to the approval of the competent governance bodies.
This is our fourth contract for long-term renewable energy acquisition, and the largest in terms of volume acquired to date. Through it, we will contribute to the construction of another energy generation park and strengthen the strategy of having an increasingly renewable energy matrix in our operations and in the petrochemical chain, reaffirming our commitment to sustainable development.

118 MWm of wind energy in operation for 20 years, with an option for equity participation in the parks and progress towards the carbon neutral goal by 2050

We developed a tailor-made model, in which we are responsible for the construction and operation of the wind farms, but we leave open the possibility for our partners to become shareholders in these ventures in the future. It is a model that generates benefits for everyone, especially for the country, by encouraging an energy transition model for large consumers.
