Reduce the environmental impact of operations and ensure energy security through renewable self-production
Ypê is a 100% Brazilian company and a leader in important hygiene and cleaning categories in the country. As part of its mission to contribute to an increasingly better world, the company sought to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and ensure energy security.
To achieve this, Ypê needed to take a significant step towards the self-production of renewable energy, a model that had been consolidating as the most efficient way to enable the energy transition for large companies, combining decarbonization, predictability, and cost savings.
Remote self-production with equity participation in two complexes: wind in RN and solar in BA until 2039
Ypê established a partnership with Casa dos Ventos, a leader in energy transition and the Brazilian leader in renewable generation, for remote self-production of renewable energy. Electricity began to be supplied by the Rio do Vento (wind) Complex, located in Rio Grande do Norte, and Babilônia Sul (solar) Complex, located in Bahia, with 1,138 MW of installed capacity in total.
We are taking an important step towards the self-production of renewable energy [...]. This action helps us advance our agenda of reducing environmental impact and ensuring energy security, in line with our mission to contribute to building an increasingly better world.
Says Gustavo de Souza, Ypê's Research, Development and Sustainability Director.
The partnership, lasting until 2039, positioned Ypê as a shareholder in the venture, establishing the brand as a remote energy self-producer — a model where energy generation and consumption occur in different locations, with all energy sent to the electrical grid and transported via the distribution or transmission structure of the SIN (National Interconnected System).
This partnership is another step towards reducing Brazil's CO2 emissions, and it also enables even more sustainable products for consumers. Furthermore, it highlights Ypê's leadership in managing its energy and boosts the company's journey towards neutralizing emissions from its operations.
States Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos.
Approximately 40% of Ypê's electricity consumption from renewable sources and equity participation in 1,138 MW of installed capacity
- Approximately 40% of Ypê's electricity consumption supplied by renewable energy;
- Ypê became a shareholder in the Rio do Vento Wind Complex and the Babilônia Sul Solar Complex, under the remote self-production model;
- Contribution to avoid the emission of ~2.3 million tons of CO2/year — total capacity of the complexes (1,138 MW);
- Another company incorporated into Rio do Vento's "energy condominium" model, now with its already expanded capacity.
